Percussion Classes Welcome Guest Artist Mike Vercelli

This week the percussion classes welcomed back to campus Dr. Mike Vercelli, Director of the World Music Center at West Virginia University.  Mike’s first visit to ECS was in the Spring of 2010.  This visit featured Mike working with our students on recreational music of the Dagara people of northern Ghana.  Students learned the song To Me Na on gyil (African xylophone) and various African drums and rattles, along with the lyrics and social dance that accompany the music.  You can see the students perform To Me Na in chapel on Wednesday, March 12th, and on the annual percussion ensembles concert that evening at 7pm.  Many thanks to Mike for making a return trip to ECS!
